Since 1994, the Martin Ennals Award has been recognizing activists around the world who proclaim our belief in universal human rights, in equal rights for all, and who work to ensure that these rights are respected, thereby promoting international peace and security.
The 60 laureates of the Award over the past 30 years have been distinguished for their outstanding commitment. The Award aims to enable them to continue their mission in the common interest, because only by strengthening human rights can we live in peace, security and prosperity.
FOR THE PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS
All of them have experienced repression, detention, attacks against themselves or their loved ones. To distinguish them is to protect them, to obtain their release or the improvement of their conditions, access to medical care and the maintenance or restoration of relations with their relatives. The Martin Ennals Award provides concrete protection for activists and builds a global network with them.
MARTIN ENNALS ASSOCIATION OF FRIENDS OF HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS
The association was established in 2022 to support the Martin Ennals Foundation, to participate in the financing of the Foundation’s activities, to finance and organize events in Switzerland and abroad in support of the Foundation and the Laureates of the Martin Ennals Award, to promote the goals of the Foundation in the management of the Award and, in general, the ideals of human rights as described in international treaties. It is registered in Geneva
Karla Avelar and Abdelaziz Muhamat, two former Laureates of the Martin Ennals Award are the founders and co-chairs. DONATIONS
Any natural or legal person who adheres to the aims of the Association and who, in its activities, supports or promotes the objectives of protection of fundamental rights, in the dignity and value of the human person, in the equality of rights, who wants to participate in distinguishing the Martin Ennals Award laureates, to ensure the continuity of their commitment in the common interest, and who wants to participate in their protection through the programs of the Association and the Foundation, can join our donors, in one of the formulas below.
Charter of the Association. The Association reserves the right to refuse any donation or to exclude any donor whose behavior is incompatible with its goals. Unless donors indicate otherwise on the registration form, the list of donors by category is published by the Association with the addition of “Other Anonymous Donors”.
